How to import free membership members from a CSV file.

Use this feature to import dozens, thousands, or tens of thousands of free (non-paying) members to your site. Please see this article if you need to import paid members.

Note: Imports do not update existing members.


Step 1:
Go to the members page in your Memberstack dashboard and click on the blue "Add Members" button on the right-hand side of the page. Then click "Import CSV" in the dropdown menu.



Step 2:
Click on the "Upload data from file" button in the "Bulk add Members" modal/popup and select the CSV file you want to import.



Step 3:
On the next modal/popup view, you will match columns of your CSV file to fields in your free memberships. Custom form fields can be matched as well! Some of the matches will be automatic, so all you need to do is hit Confirm mapping.



The fields that are unable to match automatically can be assigned to a field by clicking on the "Lookup matching fields" dropdown button on the top right of the table view for each column in the CSV file.



When you have finished matching the membership fields to your CSV columns, click on the blue "Review" button on the bottom right of the modal/popup.


Step 4:
After you have made sure your CSV import looks correct, click on the "Continue" button on the bottom right of the modal/popup. An "Are you ready to submit?" modal/popup will be shown. Click "Yes" to start the import. If you get an error, scroll to Troubleshooting at the bottom of this article.



Step 5:
Now your import has been started! If you have a significant size import, you will see a progress bar on top of the page. Once your import is finished and you see a green confirmation modal/popup on the bottom of the page, you will be able to see all your new imports in the members page in your Memberstack dashboard. Congratulations! 🎉


Note: Importing members will fire New Member Webhooks and Zaps.



"You have rows with unresolved format issues"


This means there are members missing an email or a membership. We recommend clicking "Go Back" and looking for any red fields.


If the membership field is the issue, you can select the correct membership using the dropdown arrow.
